Hotel Spas

Sometimes they are good, sometimes they deserve their own category. And sometimes there is no chance that it’s anything close to a spa. Hotel Spas are kind of their own category. I try to look for hotels that have a basic sauna, steam or sometimes hot tub. And sometimes they really work out.

Mexico (Mexico City) – The Marquis Reforma

So far this is one of the best little hotel spas that I have found in Mexico City. It’s got everything that you need and it’s well looked after. Two whirlpools, a good dry sauna, a decent steam room and some nice relaxation space. This spa is a little pricey (I think around $50USD) but it does include all the fixins’, nice shampoo and creams – even a few snacks and a lane pool. This is a nice quiet place to relax in the heart of one of the world’s largest cities.

Costa Rica (San Jose) – The Marriott Costa Rica

This place came as a surprise as I was in Costa Rica on business. I had no idea that this was going to be a resort. But it pretty nice. The place actually has two or three large heated outdoor pools and a nice outdoor hot tub which was perfect at the end of a work day.

I did book in at the actual spa too, but was really disappointed with the tepid steamroom and sauna with red ants. But the outdoor pools more than made up for that. Besides I was already sweating all day in the Costa Rican heat. Just needed a soak at that point.

Ukraine (Kiev) – Hilton Kiev Hotel and Spa

Wow – wow – wow. This probably has to be one of the best hotel spas that I have been to. In fact it might even rank in the top of all time. Just a really nice indoor setting. And it had everything. It was fully equipped, including ice machine. Loved the dry sauna, wet sauna, and hammam.

I believe that they will actually give treatments in the hammam – there was a marble slab in it. It was the perfect way to warm up after a long Kiev winter day.

Ecuador (Quito) – Swissotel

Some spas are just worth mentioning twice.

Victoria BC – The Empress Hotel

Vancouver – Hyatt
